How does the subscription work?

What are the subscription options?

You can subscribe for yourself or as a gift. For yourself, you configure everything upfront — brand, coffee type, roast preference, grind, bags per shipment, and frequency. For a gift, you pick the brand, number of bags, and frequency. The recipient redeems via an email code and sets their own grind, roast preference, and coffee type.

How does pricing work?

Price per bag depends on how often you subscribe. Weekly subscribers pay $14 per bag. Biweekly is $15. Monthly is $16. More frequent means a better price per bag — because weekly Umpties are our most committed customers and we want to reward that.

How big are the bags?

Every bag is 12oz of freshly roasted coffee. If you order multiple bags per shipment, you get multiple 12oz bags — not one big bag split up.

Can I choose my coffee?

Yes. During signup you pick a brand (Iddy Umpty, Ollie & Rocket, or Roaster's Choice), a coffee type (Single Origin, Blend, or Surprise Me), and a roast preference (Light to Medium or Medium to Dark). You also set your grind. These preferences are stored on your subscription and used for every shipment.

What is Roaster's Choice?

Roaster's Choice means we pick the best coffee across all of our current rotations — Iddy Umpty and Ollie & Rocket combined — whatever we're most excited about that week. At any given time we have 12 or more coffees across both brands, so you'll always be getting something interesting. You still set your grind and roast preference. We handle the rest.

Will I get the same coffee every shipment?

Not necessarily, and that's by design. Our coffees are seasonal and rotate regularly. When you subscribe to a brand, you're subscribing to their current rotation — which means you'll discover new coffees over time. If you want the most variety, Roaster's Choice pulls from everything across both brands at once.

What is the difference between Single Origin and Blend?

Single origin coffees come from one specific farm or region and tend to have more distinct, pronounced flavor profiles. Blends combine beans from multiple origins for a more balanced, consistent cup. Neither is better — it's personal preference. Not sure? Pick Surprise Me and we'll introduce you to both.

When does my coffee ship?

All subscriptions ship on Tuesdays. Order by Sunday and you're on the next Tuesday's truck. Miss the Sunday cutoff and you roll to the following Tuesday. Your pre-ship reminder email, sent 5 days before your Tuesday, also lets you skip a shipment before it goes out.

How does shipping work?

Orders of $25 or more ship free — always. For Flexible subscribers, your first shipment is free if your order total hits $25, which it does with 2 or more bags. Prepaid and Gift subscriptions always ship free regardless of order size. Single-bag Flexible orders under $25 are charged standard domestic shipping at checkout.

When does my card get charged?

For personal subscriptions, your card is charged before each shipment. The first charge happens at checkout. Subsequent charges happen before each Tuesday shipment. For gift subscriptions, the full amount is charged upfront at checkout — no recurring billing.

What happens if my payment fails?

We'll retry your card and send you an email. If we can't process payment before your ship day, that week's shipment will be skipped — but your streak and subscription stay active. Update your payment method in your account portal to get back on track.

What is the pre-ship reminder email?

Five days before your Tuesday shipment, we send you a heads-up. From that email you can skip the upcoming shipment, update your grind preference, change your address, or adjust how many bags you want. Frequency changes and cancellation live in your account portal.

Yes to both. Skip a shipment from your pre-ship reminder email. Pause or cancel anytime from your account portal. No fee, no minimum commitment. Any bags already shipped are yours to keep. Just know that gaps longer than 60 days between shipments will reset your Bag 10 streak.

Yes. Frequency changes live in your account portal. Find your subscription, update the frequency, and the change takes effect on your next shipment.

Can I update my shipping address?

Yes. Update your address from the pre-ship reminder email or in your account portal. Make sure to do it before the Sunday cutoff for the change to apply to that week's shipment.

Yes. You can update your grind preference, bag quantity, and shipping address from the pre-ship reminder email we send 5 days before your Tuesday. Bigger changes — like switching brands, roast preference, or frequency — can be updated in your account portal anytime.

What's the deal with Bag 10?

Accepted Answer

Hit 10 consecutive bags without a gap of more than 60 days between any two shipments, and bag 10 is on us — free, no strings attached. It's our way of saying thanks for being an Umpty. After bag 10 ships, your counter resets and you start working toward bag 20.

What counts as a consecutive bag?

Any shipment that arrives within 60 days of your previous one keeps your streak alive. Pausing for under 60 days is fine — your streak stays intact. Pausing longer than 60 days, or cancelling and resubscribing, resets your count to bag 1.

What resets my streak?

Two things: going more than 60 days between any two consecutive bags, or cancelling your subscription. Pausing under 60 days preserves your streak. Cancelling and resubscribing starts your count over at bag 1.

What happens when bag 10 ships?

Bag 10 is free — no charge. It's applied automatically, no code needed. After it ships, your streak resets to zero and you start building toward your next free bag. The cycle repeats every 10 bags for as long as you stay subscribed.

Absolutely. Select "it's a gift" at the start of the flow. You pick the brand, how many bags per shipment, the number of shipments, and the frequency. The full amount is charged at checkout — no recurring billing. All gift shipments include free shipping, and every 10th bag is automatically free.

What does the gift recipient experience?

They get an email with a redemption code. When they redeem it, they set their own grind preference, roast level, coffee type, and shipping address. Their first bag ships the next Tuesday after redemption. No credit card needed — it's fully prepaid by the gifter.

How do I send the gift on a specific date?

During the gift flow you can choose to send the redemption email immediately after checkout, or schedule it for a specific date — like a birthday or holiday. The recipient won't know until that date.

Yes. If the recipient later sets up their own paid subscription, the bags from their gift count toward their Bag 10 streak. We track the history so they don't start from zero.
